Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether she has had discussions with the Secretary of State for Levelling Up Secretary, Housing and Communities on coordinating neighbourhood and city centre policing strategies.

Decisions about neighbourhood policing strategies, including how police resources are best deployed, are a matter for Chief Constables.

We are ensuring that policing has the resources it needs. The Government has confirmed a total police funding settlement of up to £17.2bn for 2023/24, an increase of up to £287m compared to 22/23. We are also on track to recruit 20,000 additional officers by March 2023, taking us for the first time to over 148,400 officers across England and Wales.

Under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, there is a statutory obligation for the police to work with other partners, including Local Authorities, through Community Safety Partnerships to devise strategies for the reduction of crime and disorder at the local level.

• As at 31 December 2022, 16,753 additional uplift officers have been recruited in England and Wales through the Police Uplift Programme, 84% of the 20,000 additional officers by March 2023.

• As at 31 December 2022, North Yorkshire Police has recruited 221 additional uplift officers against a total three year allocation of 194 officers.
