Prescriptions: Fees and Charges

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what the cost to the public purse has been of providing free prescriptions to people (a) with specific medical reasons and (b) over the age of 60 in each of the last five years for which information is available.

The Net Ingredient Cost (NIC) for items that were dispensed and captured against the exemption categories of Medical Exemption and Aged 60 or Over in each of the last four financial years is shown in the following table. Data prior to January 2014 is not available from the NHS Business Service Authority Data Warehouse.
