Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what steps she is taking to help ensure (a) consistency and (b) effectiveness of police enforcement of regulations on the use of private e-scooters in (i) Hampshire and (ii) the UK.
Enforcement of road traffic law, including on the use of private e-scooters in Hampshire and nationally, is an operational matter for the police to determine in conjunction with local policing plans. The force’s Chief Officer will decide how to deploy available resources, taking into account any specific local problems and demands.
The Government is working with the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) to explore options to reduce illegal e-scooter use. The Government will continue to support the police to ensure they have the tools needed to enforce road traffic legislation, including those relating to private e-scooters.
