In July 2022 Government announced the £100 million Frequently Flooded Allowance, which is ring-fenced from our record £5.2 billion floods programme to support communities that have experienced repeated flooding, defined as 10 or more properties having flooded twice or more in the past 10 years.

The Allowance will help schemes that already qualify for Defra’s Flood Defence Grant in Aid funding under the current capital programme but have not been able to secure the funding necessary to progress their scheme. The allowance can be used to support any eligible flood scheme, including traditional flood defences, natural flood management, and Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures. We will announce the first beneficiaries of the Frequently Flooded Allowance in due course.
