The total number of airport identification cards (“airside passes”) held by UK airports is in the region of 230,000. The Department for Transport does not hold information on the numbers of airport identification cards issued by financial year. The number of airport identification cards held at any one time or at any one airport is not static and may change on a daily basis. The issue and management of airport identification cards is a matter for each airport operator to handle in line with regulatory requirements outlined in the National Aviation Security Programme.
