To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, for what reason people with indefinite leave to remain do not receive (a) biometric cards and (b) no time limit status (a) automatically and (b) free of charge.

The cost to process the biometric residence permit has been included as part of the overall application fee since 2008. Individuals seeking to upgrade legacy documents or replace their biometric residence permits are required to cover the cost of processing the application. There are some limited concessions for certain applicants, such as refugees.
