Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what estimate he has made of the number of refugees received by the UK since 1 January 2018.
Refugee status is conferred following a grant of asylum. An asylum seeker may only become a refugee once asylum has been granted. Not all asylum seekers are deemed to be refugees and not all refugees claim asylum.
The Home Office publishes data on the number of asylum applications received each quarter, broken down by nationality, in table as_01_q (asylum, volume 1) of the quarterly Immigration Statistics release. The latest data available are for January to March 2018. Data for April to June 2018 will be published on 23rd August 2018.
