The Global Polio Eradication Initiative has been an extraordinary success story with cases being reduced from 350,000 a year in 125 countries in 1988, to 22 last year with only 3 countries not yet declared polio-free. The UK has supported this effort with a current spend of £453 million since 2010, and a cumulative investment of £1.3 billion since 1988. The UK continues to be a staunch supporter of the eradication effort.
