Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what information her Department holds on whether the ransomware virus which began infecting computers on 27 June 2017 is able to bypass the patch released by Microsoft for all platforms from Windows XP to Windows 10.

On 27 Jun 2017, there was widespread media reporting of global ransomware infections. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) are monitoring the situation closely and providing advice to the public and businesses.

A variety of tools are publicly available to help organisations limit the spread and impact of the attacks that have occurred. NCSC have issued guidance that can be found on their homepage at ncsc.gov.uk found under the title "Protecting Your Organisation From Ransomware”. The NCSC constantly updates its advice in order to address emerging and existing threats.
