Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what statutory mechanisms are in place for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency to audit and physically verify the completion and quality of safety-critical vehicle recalls.
Vehicle manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products are safe. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) supports the administration of recalls, including ensuring the safety defects are correctly categorised and recalls happen as needed. DVSA does not have a responsibility for verifying that individual recalls are completed correctly, that is for the manufacturer.
DVSA will investigate any complaint of recalls not being conducted in line with the code of practice or legislative requirements.
