Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what steps she is taking to support more efficient use of fertilisers to manage the impact on food security in developing countries over the coming months of limited supplies linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The crisis in global fertiliser prices and supply poses a grave risk for global food security.
Internationally, the UK is supporting agriculture production in developing countries through a range of investments that promote sustainable and more efficient use of fertilisers. British International Investment, our Development Finance Institution, is supporting the food and agriculture sector through a $560 million portfolio that will continue to expand. We are developing a technical assistance offer through our Centres of Expertise which will support countries to identify, implement and attract investment in market-based and sustainable solutions to the fertiliser crisis.
