Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, whether it is Departmental practice not to use the term ritual slaughter when discussing shechita and halal slaughtering process.

The Department refers to the term ‘slaughtered by religious rite’, as this is the terminology used in the relevant legislation. This may be shortened to ‘religious slaughter’.
