We believe schools should have the freedom to recruit the teachers they need. For the STEM international recruitment activity, target countries, as well as specific states, territories and regions within those countries, are being determined. This will include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA, and EEA countries. Further information is on the Department’s website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/qualified-teacher-status-qts

The budget allocated for this financial year is £40,500. Funding for future years will be determined according to need.

The Department does not collect or hold data on how many teachers schools have recruited from each country. We have records of overseas teachers who have applied for QTS but this does not necessarily mean that the applicant has then taken a post in an English school. Visa information for non EEA nationals is collected by the Home Office.
