Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how many British Transport Police officers were assigned to policing major rail interchange stations in each of the last five years; and if she will list the stations included in those figures.
British Transport Police have reported the following average full time equivalent number of police officers assigned to major rail interchange stations in each year:
2022/23: 689.8
2023/24: 743.3
2024/25: 661.8
2025/26: 623.3
2026/27: 646.3
The stations included are:
The increase in average full-time officers at major rail interchange stations to 743.3 in 2023/24 was due to officers being moved to alternative BTP locations, including offices at railway stations, whilst the BTP's London headquarters was relocated.
