Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what plans his Department has to publish a national diabetes strategy; and if he will make a statement.
NHS England has not yet made any decisions on the next steps for the patient-centred outcome measures (PCOMs) programme. It is currently assessing the PCOMs children and young people work with a view to deciding where the best applications of PCOMs will be.
Preventing diabetes and promoting the best possible care for people with diabetes is a key priority for this Government. The NHS Five Year Forward View set out a commitment to implement a National Diabetes Prevention Programme to provide lifestyle programmes to pre diabetic patients to reduce the risk of them developing diabetes.
We are also building on the Diabetes Prevention Programme to develop a comprehensive action plan to improve the outcomes of people with and at risk of diabetes.
