In his meeting with Burma's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on 20 September, the Foreign Secretary made clear that holding to account those responsible for atrocities was of critical importance. The Foreign Secretary has made clear that, referring the situation in Burma to the International Criminal Court (ICC) is an option the UN Security Council should consider. The UK is calling for the UNSC to debate the report of the UN Fact Finding Mission. Foreign and Commonwealth Office Officials in The Hague, have regular contact with the Office of the Prosecutor on this and other Court business. The UK respects the independence of the Court.
