A count of finished admission episodes with a primary diagnosis and a primary or secondary diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in National Health Service trusts in the years 2013-14 to 2017-18 is shown in the attached table. The primary diagnosis is the main reason why the patient is admitted to hospital. A secondary diagnosis is used where there are other diagnoses relevant to the episode of care.

This data shows a count of episodes, not patients as the same patient may have had more than one admission episode within the same time period.
