Funding for the cross-system digital transformation portfolio of national health and social care programmes and live services is shown in the following table.

Year

Revenue £ million

Capital £ million

2017-18

528

361

2018-19

519

497

2019-20

541

478

2020-21

777

248

The split of funding between revenue and capital reflects the mix of programmes and services that make up the digital transformation portfolio and the fact that, for many of the programmes, capital expenditure features more heavily earlier in the development cycle with the proportion of revenue expenditure increasing as programmes movie into their later stages and transition into live services.

Funding for 2021-22 and beyond will be confirmed through the National Health Service Long Term Plan and the next Spending Review.

Funding for local IT programmes or programmes not covered by the digital transformation portfolio is not included as this information is not collected centrally.
