Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many asylum caseworkers were employed by her Department in March 2023.

As of 01 March 2023, there are 1,281 full time equivalent (FTE) asylum decision makers. This information is published online: Statistics relating to the Illegal Migration Bill - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

Finalised data for the number of decision makers up to 31 March 2023 is due to be published on 25 May 2023.

We will continue to increase the number of caseworkers to help clear the asylum backlog by the end of 2023. This will take our expected number of decision makers to 1,800 by summer and 2,500 by September 2023.
