Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps his Department has taken to roll out proven interventions to increase the rates of diabetes remission.
NHS England is exploring the piloting and implementation of Very Low Calorie Diets (VCLD) a clinically supervised diet plan that involves eating about 800 calories a day or fewer. Some people with type 2 diabetes can achieve remission, at least for a period, through adoption of a VLCD. Achieving remission of type 2 diabetes will allow the patient to stop taking anti-diabetic drugs and these associated costs and prevent the development of further complications.
