Temperate rainforests are included in existing habitat classifications. The special features of woodlands through the western parts of Britain are recognised in the JNCC European habitat types which describe woodlands featuring old oak (Quercus robur) holly (Ilex) and fern (blechnum) that often fall into mosaic with Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines and Alluvial forests with black alder (Alnus glutinosa) and ash (Fraxinus excelsior).
