Head teachers and trust leaders decide how much Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) time they provide for their teachers.

The School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD), which sets out the statutory framework for teachers’ pay and conditions for maintained schools in England, sets a minimum requirement of 10% of a teacher’s timetabled teaching time as PPA time. There is no upper limit on PPA time.

While academies are not required to comply with the requirements set out in the STPCD, anecdotal evidence suggests that the vast majority do. The STPCD can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-teachers-pay-and-conditions.
