The Government is taking a range of actions to retain doctors in the National Health Service, including those who have received Government funding for their studies. This includes a number of initiatives delivered through NHS England’s Enhancing Junior Doctors’ Working Lives programme to improve the experience of doctors in postgraduate training. More generally, the NHS People Plan and the People Promise pledge to build a more modern, compassionate and inclusive culture in the NHS. Analysis by the General Medical Council shows that 92% of doctors are present in specialty or general practitioner training within four years after completing the Foundation Programme. The Government continues to keep this under review.
