Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of whether the plans of separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine to hold elections on 11 November 2018 represents a breach of the Minsk Accords; and what steps the Government plans to take in response to such elections in the event that they take place as planned.
The illegitimate "elections", that took place on 11 November in the non-Government controlled territories of the so-called "Luhansk People's Republic" and "Donetsk People's Republic" in the Donbas contravene the commitments made under the Minsk Agreements and violate Ukrainian law.
The EU condemned these illegitimate "elections" on 10 November. In a statement on 12 November, the UK condemned these elections as part of Russia's continued violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are carefully considering an appropriate response with international partners.
