Question to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero:
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment he has made of the impact of the Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy of the delivery the switch of 20 terawatt hours of the UK Industry’s energy supply from fossil fuel sources to low carbon alternatives by 2030.
Since the Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy, Government has increased ambition in the Net Zero Strategy, aiming to replace around 50 TWh of fossil fuels per year in industry by 2035.
The Government provides support for fuel switching through the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF), and the Industrial Fuel Switching Competition (IFSC). Additionally, Government launched the £240 million Net Zero Hydrogen Fund in April 2022 and continues to support early movers in industry.
The Government will launch a Call for Evidence this year, seeking industry and other stakeholder views on overcoming barriers to increased and accelerated industrial electrification.
