Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether his Department is taking steps to provide office space to enable the recruitment of additional trainee doctors.
The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, published in June 2023, includes an aim to double the number of medical school places in England to 15,000 places a year by 2031/32, and to work towards this expansion by increasing places by a third, to 10,000 a year, by 2028/29.
The Government has no immediate plans to provide additional office space and will work with the sector to ensure the efficient use of current capacity across the National Health Service and universities.
