Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, if he will bring forward legislative proposals to make free wi-fi for passengers mandatory at railway stations.
There are currently no plans to bring forward legislative proposals to make free Wi-Fi at stations mandatory. Certain train operators are obligated to provide free public Wi-Fi at stations they manage as part of their Franchise Agreement commitments, while others may choose whether or not to provide station Wi-Fi. All Network Rail-managed stations - such as London Paddington, Birmingham New Street and Reading - offer free station Wi-Fi for public use.
