Question to the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, with reference to the section on proposal 3: reducing fireworks noise of his Department's consultation entitled Fireworks and pyrotechnics in the UK, published on 16 July 2026, what decibel threshold his Department is considering when defining the noisiest fireworks.

The consultation seeks to gather views on reducing the maximum permitted noise level of consumer fireworks. The Government is proposing to reduce the current maximum of 120 decibels (A, imp). The consultation seeks views on three options, a 110 decibel (A, imp) limit - which would halve the perceived loudness of fireworks – a 100 decibels (A, imp) limit or a 90 decibels (A, imp) limit should also be considered.

The Government will carefully consider all consultation responses, alongside the available evidence, before determining whether changes to the permitted noise limits for consumer fireworks are warranted and practical.
