Natural England oversaw a capital grant scheme in 2020-21 for the establishment of the then England Coast Path (now King Charles III England Coast Path) by local highway authorities which will make the King Charles III England Coast Path the longest waymarked and maintained coastal walking route in the world at 2,700 miles long when complete. The grant scheme is still ongoing and over 900 miles is now open to the public.
