Social Services: Resignations

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many staff left the adult social care workforce in each of the last five years.
Skills for Care have published data on the number of employees who left an adult social care role in a local authority or independent provider as a proportion of the total number of those employees in each year from 2012/13 to 2021/22 (turnover rate).
The latest figures from Skills for Care (published July 2023) show the turnover rate for the independent sector decreased from 32% to 30% in 2022/23. Turnover rates for the independent sector for the last five years are displayed in the table below.

However, it is important to note that Skills for Care’s publication does not include the destination of workers leaving a job in the adult social care sector. This means that we cannot distinguish between those who have left the sector entirely (or which sector they have moved to) and those moving between jobs within the sector.
