Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what recent representations he has made to his Pakistani counterpart on the citizenship status of the 1.5 million children of Afghan refugees currently living in that country.
The British government welcomes the decision of the Pakistan government to grant registered Afghans the right to remain in Pakistan until June 2019. We also welcome last month’s second meeting of the Refugee Working Group between the Pakistani and Afghan governments. The British government continues to advocate for the rights of Afghan refugees, and follows developments closely.
