Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if she will bring forward legislative proposals to give a right of anonymity to people who are under investigation for a criminal offence and who have not been charged.
The Authorised Professional Practice Guidance on media relations, issued by the College of Policing, already makes clear that the police will not name those arrested or suspected of a crime, save in exceptional circumstances where there is a legitimate policing purpose to do so.
There are currently no plans to bring forward any legislative changes regarding pre-charge anonymity.
