Question to the HM Treasury:
To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what steps HM Revenue and Customs is taking to use powers under Part I, Chapter II of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 to prevent and detect tax evasion.
In 2013/14 a total of 348 HMRC investigations across Enforcement and Compliance were supported by the acquisition of CD for the purposes of preventing and detecting crime and assessing or collecting taxes and duties. A total of 11,103 requests were made, (the majority requesting subscriber information). In 2013/14 communications data underpinned investigations that prevented revenue loss in excess of £1 billion.
