The North West includes two Highways Agency maintenance areas (10 and 13). It covers the operation of the motorway and trunk road network from the Scottish border in the north, to the Welsh border in the west and as far south as the Midlands. The Highways Agency has spent the following amounts on road maintenance in the North West since 2007/08. The Highways Agency only has financial data from 2007/08 as prior to that the data is not split into specific areas.

2007/08 £42m

2008/09 £33m

2009/10 £125m

2010/11 £48m

2011/12 £60m

2012/13 £38m

2013/14 £37m

The Department for Transport provides capital funding to local highway authorities from the local highways maintenance capital block grant. Both the Westmoreland and Lonsdale constituency and South Lakeland fall within Cumbria County Council's area of responsibility and therefore we do not allocate any funds directly to them for road maintenance.
