The Home Office has taken steps to ensure that it complies fully with the Hughes-Chang court judgement. Mandatory changes have been made to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 Codes of Practice C and H, which came into effect in October 2013, which require the police to provide 17 year olds with an appropriate adult and to inform their parents of their detention.
