Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, further to the FCDO Annual Report and Accounts 2025-26, HC521, of 16 July 2026, page 247, for what reason her Department provides Overseas Development Assistance to the People’s Republic of China; and what programmes were funded in 2025-26.

The UK stopped direct government-to-government aid to China in 2011. No Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding is provided to the Chinese authorities. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office aid allocation in China funds initiatives to defend human rights and advance open societies in China. Given the sensitivity of this work, the Government does not provide detailed public information on individual projects. We report our ODA spending in the Statistics on International Development publication. Final 2025 ODA figures will be published in autumn 2026.
