Question to the Cabinet Office:

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, with reference to the Cabinet Office policy paper, Rewiring the State – Cabinet Statement, of 31 July 2026, whether the Government plans primary legislation to revoke statutory duties to consult; and whether the Government intends to make greater use of Citizen's Assemblies.

As set out in the Rewiring the State statement, the government is considering a range of options, including primary legislation, to streamline statutory consultation duties. We are also exploring how participatory tools, including Citizens' Assemblies, can best support public engagement. Further details will be made available in due course.
