Question to the Department for International Development:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, if she will make UK aid to Malawi conditional on the repeal of laws which discriminate against LGBT people; and if she will make a statement.
This question was answered on 3rd September 2014
The UK is not currently providing any aid to the Government of Malawi. At the end of 2013, the UK suspended all funding going through Malawi government systems following revelations of wide-spread fraud and corruption involving public finances.
