Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether he has made an assessment of the validity of the October 2018 analysis by the Nuffield Trust showing an NHS funding shortfall of about £1 billion in 2019-20; and if he will make a statement.

We do not agree that there will be a shortfall in 2019-20, and the Nuffield Trust’s analysis, dated 26 October 2018, concludes that once recurrent efficiencies are factored in there is financial headroom within the National Health Service’s long-term settlement.
