Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, pursuant to the answer of 17 June 2026 to Question 8069 on Treaties, and to the answer of 13 July 2026 to Question 16921 on Treaties: Parliamentary Scrutiny, through what mechanism the FCDO desk officer for a specific country knows what non-binding agreements are currently in force between that country and the United Kingdom.
I refer the Hon Member to the Government's published guidance "Treaties and Memoranda of Understanding: Guidance on Practice and Procedures", which is available at www.gov.uk/government/publications/treaties-and-mous-guidance-on-practice-and-procedures; individual Departments are responsible for the implementation of treaties and non-legally binding instruments within their areas of responsibility. In accordance with the Government's response to the House of Lords International Agreements Committee published on 3 December 2025, the Government is currently engaging with the Committee on a review of this guidance, and updated guidance will be published on gov.uk in due course.
