The Prime Minister, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron) spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Haidar al-Abadi shortly after his appointment to encourage him to build an inclusive Government in Baghdad to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Secretary of State for International Development, my Rt. Hon. Friend the Member for Putney (Justine Greening), and I also met him in Baghdad on 26 August. Our Embassy remains in regular contact with Iraqi politicians from across the political spectrum to encourage them to support Mr al-Abadi in forming a new Government.
