Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many people in each age group were prescribed Viagra through the NHS in each of the last five years.
Information is not collected centrally on the number of people prescribed medicines or the medical condition being treated. However, information is available on the number of prescription items dispensed in the community in England.
Viagra is a brand name for the chemical Sildenafil. The table below shows the number of prescription items dispensed for Sildenafil, broken down by brand names, for the last five years.

2 In June 2013 Viagra came of patent. There was a shift in prescribing practice with an increase in prescribing of Sildenefil by its generic name and a corresponding decline in the prescribing of the branded Viagra.
