Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to the Answer of 15 June 2026 to Question 4240 on Erasmus+ Programme, whether a UK beneficiary is a British citizen receiving education or training under the programme.

The Erasmus+ Programme Guide, which can be accessed here: https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/erasmus-programme-guide) defines a beneficiary as ‘a natural person or an entity with or without legal personality with whom a grant agreement has been signed’. In practice, beneficiaries are usually organisations, such as schools, colleges, universities, training providers or youth organisations, that apply for Erasmus+ funding and sign grant agreements.

Participants are the eligible individuals who take part in Erasmus+ activities through beneficiary organisations, including those who are enrolled at, work for, volunteer with, or are otherwise involved with those organisations. The department estimates that around 100,000 participants from UK beneficiary organisations will benefit from Erasmus+ mobility and partnership opportunities from participation in 2027.
