Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how much (a) his Department and (b) local highways authorities have spent on consultants for cycling programmes, activities or projects in each year since 1997.

We are unable to disaggregate the amount spent specifically on cycling from spend on consultancy. Furthermore, between 2005 and 2011 Cycling England were responsible for investment in cycling, however they were not consultants. For local highway authorities we do not keep this information centrally.
