Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, if he will place in the Library data on (a) the number of people diagnosed with HIV, (b) the number of HIV deaths and (c) HIV prevalence in England since 1985.
Public Health England and its predecessors have monitored the United Kingdom’s human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic since the early 1980s.
The following table summarises the number newly diagnosed with HIV, the number of deaths occurring among people with HIV, the number of people accessing HIV care (i.e. diagnosed prevalent HIV infections) in the UK from 1985-2012, and the number of death certificates that specifically mention ‘HIV’, ‘Human Immunodeficiency Virus’, ‘AIDS’ or ‘Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome’.
