Question to the Department for International Development:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what the policy of the Government is on providing financial aid to Japan following Typhoon Vongfong.
Japan has not requested international assistance and has strong national capacity for dealing with disasters. When deciding whether to respond to a humanitarian emergency DFID takes into account a number of factors such as the severity and scale of impact of the event, the vulnerability of the affected population, the capacity of the affected government to respond and whether the affected national government has requested assistance.
