Obesity: Children

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what proportion of children aged between five and 18 are classified as obese in (a) England and (b) Havering.

Data on obesity are collected via the Health Survey for England. For children, the data are presented for age groups 2-10, 11-15 and 2-15. Adults are classified as those aged over 16.

13.7% of children aged 2-15 are classified as obese in England (Health Survey for England 2012).

13.1% of adults aged 16-24 are classified as obese in England (Health Survey for England 2012)

Data for Havering is not available from the Health Survey for England as this data collection is only produced at a national level. The number and percentage of children measured as obese or overweight (including obese), as part of the National Childhood Measure Programme (NCMP) in Havering is presented in the following table:
