On 1 October 2012, the Secretary of State for Health transferred responsibility for issues relating to the appointment of chairs of NHS trusts from the Appointments Commission to the NHS Trust Development Authority. Power to determine levels of remuneration payable to them has, however, never been delegated and still rests with the Secretary of State.
