NHS England is responsible for commissioning general practice services. Their Five Year Forward View announced that they will support practices to become Multispeciality Community Providers (MCPs), sometimes referred to as ‘Super-Practices’. These could be in the form of single practices, loose federations of multiple practices, or mergers between practices.

NHS England has advised that no assessment has been made as to how many MCPs will emerge by the end of 2014.
