The Government has made £17 million available to NHS England and NHS Improvement to reduce dementia waiting lists and increase the number of diagnoses. NHS England and NHS Improvement continue to monitor the dementia diagnosis rates at a regional and local sustainability and transformation partnership level to aid targeted efforts to support recovery of referrals, diagnosis, and, where appropriate, support access to post-diagnostic support.

In York, a specialist dementia nurse has been commissioned to work with primary care and identify and support people at high risk. A multi-disciplinary team approach is also being piloted for diagnosis and treatment in primary care where appropriate, with consultant support.
